Somatics

Somatics is an area of study of body and movement that emphasizes internal physical perception and experience. The term is used in motion therapy to refer to approaches based on soma or "body seen from within", including the Alexander Technique, Feldenkrais method, and "structural integration" (rolfing). In dance, the term refers to a technique based on the dancer's inner sense, emphasizing the audience's external observation of the movement, as opposed to “performance styles”such as ballet or modern dance. Somatic methods can be used in body work, psychotherapy, dance, or spiritual practice.
